New Years Big Island Sunrise

Where do you go when you want to watch the sun rise over the island on New Years Day? Some people go up to the summit at Mauna Kea, but there is snow up there this year and we didn’t want to freeze as a welcome to 2023!

So, we headed for the cinder cone about 20 minutes north of Kailua Kona near Kua Bay to do a 2 mile round trip hike with a 300 foot elevation gain. Best part was having the sun peek through the clouds, light up the landscape, cast a gorgeous glow across Kohala and the waves at Kua Bay and then rise into the clouds. It only gave us a few moments of stunning beauty..but isnt that like life? You appreciate it more when you only get something amazing for a short amount of time. Happy 2023- hoping to do some new adventures this year that take you even deeper into this beautiful island we call home!
